Obtaining Technical Support
and Drivers from Computer Companies and Other Sources

Here are some tips for finding support, drivers, updates, and other information for the various products you use with your computer. Usually, companies on the World Wide Web can be reached by going to: http://www.company name.com/
Drivers, updates, and other files, if not on the World Wide Web site, can be found at their respective FTP (file transfer protocol) sites. ftp://ftp.company name.com/
If you are using an FTP client instead of your browser to access FTP, you can log into most of these sites by entering Anonymous for the login name, and your email address for the password.

If you require technical support, don't go to the place you bought the product - you'll be wasting your time. Instead, contact the manufacturer, either through one of the channels listed below (step one), or with the phone number listed in the documentation (step two). If you've just bought the product, and it doesn't work, don't waste any of your valuable time on it - return it immedately and buy something else. If the manufacturer doesn't have a toll free number, it's in your right to complain that they are not only wasting your time, but your money as well.

Below is an ever-expanding list of resources on the World Wide Web. For product information, drivers, updates, and technical support, go to the home page of the manufacturer of the specific product - email technical support is also listed if applicable. For product reviews, tips, bug watches, and information on the newest technologies, visit the home pages of the major computer magazines. Finally, use one of the WWW search engines to find any other information you seek.
