Tortillas

| 1 t baking powder 5 c flour 2 t salt 2/3 c shortening 1 ½ to 1 3/4 c hot water. Melt shortening in hot water. Add salt. Pour into flour and baking powder mixture. This mix should be a soft dough (not sticky and not dry. Kneed until smooth and elastic. Then divide into 22 small balls of dough. Place plastic wrap over dough on counter or pan for 20 to 40 min. (If you don't let them sit this long they will tear (and besides they get really tired). Flatten with rollling pin until thin. Lay them over fist and stretch gently. Cook on ungreased griddle till brown spots appear (about 2 min.). Ta-da!! |
